Holocaust Remeberence

Last Tuesday was Holocaust Rememberence Day, where we honor those that were lost in the Holocaust. Although Jews are always remembered, we must also remember all who were thought not good enough by the Nazis. The Gypies, Polish, gays, and any person who was not blonde haired and blue eyed. Let us learn from these mistakes, as every anniversary tried to remind us to never forget. Every year we are left with less and less living survivors to describe the gut wrenching and horrible things done in WWII, in the concentrations camps. Movies and tributes played all day, and yet is it enough? That was a prodrome for what Suddam Hussein did to his own people, another act of genocide. Ironic that both thought they were ridding their country of 'lesser' people. When I believe that everyone will agree how wrong they were. Let us never forget the past, for they are lessons and prodromes for the future.

UGA Teacher Murderer

Last week a UGA professor is accused of killing his wife and two other men and has fled Athens and Georgia (presummably) and is still on the run today. Since I have friends that go to UGA and live in Athens I was concerned. Was this another Virginia Tech incident? Columbine was earlier that week on Monday (1oth anniversary). However, this was a professor, which is another leap in school violence. We hear about troubled students, but usually faculty are accused of sexual misconduct or something similar. He did not attack the school, thank goodness, and UGA sent of a threat text and email as well as phone call to students, which prevented an attack had he tried. Preventative steps weer taken which were discussed in the presentations about Columbine and other school incidents. Although no student was injured, UGA still took precautions. As for the professor himself, the red jeep he is apparently driving has not been found, yet mentions of him using his passport to go overseas are running rampant on television stations.

Mexican Swine Flu

Since I am going to Mexico this summer, this caught my eye. It reminded me of the SARs case we studied earlier this semester as well. The swine flu epidemic hit Mexico about 2 months ago and has now crossed into American borders. The disease can mutate into other diseases that are untreatable. And for now, we do not know how the virus spreads, and yet people are dying in a couple of days. Mexico has handled the crisis and epidemic by closing the schools until May and that may even happen in the U.S. now. Just like the SARs case, there were early warning signs that could have prevented the spreading of this disease, and yet we are just now trying to stop the spread and limit travel to Mexico.

Craig's List Murderer

There is a new serial killer out there, and he is known as the Craig's List Killer. He found his victims online through craig's list "erotic massages" and other areas of interest. Could this have been prevented? Of course, prodromes to this are chat rooms that lure children in and dating sights that do not do background checks and have weirdos in them which help them find people. We should now be on the lookout for the e-bay and amazon serial killer next. The crisis was dealt with a swiftly as the police could figure who the killer was. Just a serial killer with a twist.

Pirate Ship Attack

Yesterday, a United States fleet ship was overtaken by pirates. The ship was carrying aide for a country in Africa and men in a little boat came to the ship, thinking they were stranded or something the captain brought them on board, only to haver the ship overtaken. Later in the day the captain let the pirates take him off the ship to their little boat in order to save his ship. This is a slow and emerging crisis that should have been avoided. There have been other attacks, and it was inevitable that this would happen to a U.S. ship.

The News At The Grammys

In case anyone missed it, the Michael Phelps incident has been replace by the Chris Brown and Rhianna news/rumors. It just goes to show, that taking a puff is not as bad as hitting a girl.

Getting Thru Cancer

Recently I have been diagnosed with cancer, and at 22 years old, and this being my last semester I will let nothing stand in my way!
